If you have a disability and are applying for compensation benefits through the Veterans Administration, you may also qualify for other benefits. Pursuing a veterans disability claim can be a complicated process. Don’t attempt to pursue a claim independently; let an experienced Orlando veterans disability lawyer help.

Examples of Benefits Available to All Veterans

There are many benefits that all veterans may be entitled to receive. These include:

Disability Compensation

Provided you have a qualifying service-connected disability, you could be eligible for veterans disability compensation. There are some cases where you would not be eligible, i.e., bad conduct discharge, other than honorable discharge, or dishonorable discharge. In some cases, you may be able to receive a discharge upgrade, though.

Health Care

If you apply for health care benefits, you are assigned one of eight priority groups. Your position will depend on various factors, including military service history, income level, whether you qualify for Medicaid, and more.

Home Loan Guarantee

The Veterans Administration will provide loan guarantees to help veterans keep, repair, or rebuild a home. These are loans granted by private lenders, and the VA guarantees them. This benefit allows veterans to enjoy lower interest rates on the loans and hopefully enable you to pay down the loan faster.

Life Insurance Disabled Veterans Benefits

Disabled veterans may be entitled to life insurance benefits as well. There are several different types, including Service-Disabled Veterans Insurance (S-DVI) and Veterans Group Life Insurance (VGLI). To learn more about the specific qualifications for each, speak with an experienced Orlando veterans disability lawyer.

Long-Term Nursing Home Care

If you are a veteran enrolled in the VA health care system, you could be eligible for long-term nursing home care. However, your disability rating will determine what level of care you are eligible for and how much the VA will pay.

Vision Care and Hearing Aids

Regardless of whether your condition is service-related, you can receive glasses, contact lenses, and hearing aids. This benefit also includes your routine eye exams, preventative testing, and the cost of eyeglasses.

Medical Treatment for Disabled Veterans

If you need medical assistance for any service-related condition, you can seek treatment at your local VAMC, regardless of your rating.

Burial Benefits

If a veteran dies in a service-related death, the VA will pay a certain amount toward burial expenses. If the veteran’s death was before September 11, 2001, the benefit is $1,500. If their death is after September 11, 2001, the benefit is $2,000.

Home Improvement Grants

If a veteran has a service-connected condition and needs home improvements or alterations to continue treatment, the VA may cover some expenses.

Benefits Based on Disability Rating

Depending on your disability rating, additional benefits are available that are specific to various rating levels. For example, if you are 100% disabled, you are eligible for dental care benefits. Your Orlando veterans benefits attorney can help you understand what benefits may be available depending on your disability rating level. Contact the Law Offices of Shea A.
